They say 12.12.12 is special. To me it was like many others. As midnight hit, i was in front of the laptop in my makeshift home office that is also know as the family dining room. My ADD’ness had me flipping between the wires for a new mobile app that is trying to claim its rightful place, and various sites, all inspirational, all very image centric since I tend to not read, I mean i glance mostly, but what I really like to do is observe.
In between keystrokes I sipped on my homemade cappuccino, with just the right amount of too much sugar. That amount that makes you feel like you are getting away with something but without the guilt.
Elsewhere the house is asleep, dog, kids, au pair and wife all dreaming about something. I checked on the kids like i always do. Kids are the closest connection we have to heaven (or whatever nice place you believe will be there to greet you when you die) and their connection to heaven is closest at precisely two moments every day. The first is when they have first fallen into a peaceful dream. Their faces are an endless ocean of tranquility ( a nice contrast with their awoken state ). The other moment is when they see you for the first time that day. Whatever else is happening in the world doesn’t matter during those precious moments.
Like clockwork before 1AM, I hear the pitty patter of little feet running from their room to ours. That’s Owen. No stop to see Dad on the laptop tonight, just straight to mom. When it’s my turn to turn in for the night, I survey my chances of getting an OK night of sleep with two boys (Zander is a little earlier than usual) plus the wife in a bed not made for such adventures. I turn around. A twin bed covered in pink covers and sheets sounds pretty good. Madeleine is asleep clinching her blankee like her life depended on it.
9AM, F*ck I forgot my coffee in the car. No worries, today i get to do what i love. Solve problems, make a difference and go home again.
I guess today was special..
