Not everything survived Christmas dinner and there’s still too much sitting there in the fridge waiting to be made into snacks and sandwiches. Everyone brought cookies and I think I’ve had enough ham to last quite a while. There are only so many holiday leftovers a person can eat and eventually you have to leave the house. At least everything was cleaned up last night before everyone else left to go home – with their own bags of pulled pork and honey-glazed ham and as much sides as I could get them to take.
The university’s holiday schedule means that while most people go back to work the day after Christmas, I get the chance to decide whether to just sit around the house and eat while the rain from the cold front passed or attempt to get something accomplished. Post-holiday sales seemed like a good excuse to take the coupon I have up to the craft store and see what I could pick up for a mural that I have planned. Just wandering the aisles, looking at all of the supplies for a million projects there is never enough time to start, let alone finish, is a fun time-waster.
Since there was a good deal on acrylic paint, I grabbed some extra colors. I have a rough plan, but no sketches and it’s a large-scale project, so I grabbed a few bottles that I might not use. The general idea is a tiki-themed beach scene complete with hula girls and a dive bar feel. As it has three-sides, one side will reflect an ocean sunrise, the main panel will have the main beachy elements, and the last side will show a seaside sunset.
I finally picked a few shades of blue and light browns, as well as various greens for the palm fronds that will drape down from the top corners of the panels, and I took the whole basket up to the register, chatting with the cashier about this and that. It wasn’t until I’d swiped my card and she was putting everything in the bag that I realized I’d forgotten my coupon.
